Yes, a student who has completed their education through NIOS (National Institute of Open Schooling) is eligible to apply for IITs (Indian Institutes of Technology).
If they meet the following criteria:
-
Eligibility for JEE Exams: NIOS is recognized by the Ministry of Education, so NIOS students can appear for the JEE Main and JEE Advanced exams, the entrance exams for admission to IITs.
-
Subject Requirements: The candidate must have studied Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM) in their 12th standard (or equivalent) as required for JEE eligibility.
-
Minimum Percentage Requirement: Candidates should meet the minimum percentage criteria in their qualifying examination (10+2 or equivalent) for JEE Advanced. This percentage requirement can vary each year and is usually set at 75% in PCM or a top 20 percentile score in their respective board exams, though exceptions are sometimes made.
-
Age and Attempt Limit: NIOS students must also meet the age and attempt limits for JEE Advanced, which are typically in place for all candidates.
As long as these criteria are fulfilled, NIOS students have the same chances as any other students to qualify for and secure a seat in an IIT based on their JEE scores.
